Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear trail running spikes on paved roads?

Most ICEGRIPPER trail models are designed for off-road terrain, but certain models like Kahtoola NANOspikes are transition-friendly and can handle short stretches of tarmac without excessive wear.

How do I choose the right size for my running shoes?

ICEGRIPPER grips fit over most types of footwear and each product has a size guide featured in the image gallery. Some products like ICESPIKE are universal and will fit all footwear of all sizes. If you are unsure just drop us a message - use the CHAT button, it's featured bottom right on every web page.

Are these ice grips suitable for mud as well as ice?

Several products are often bought to improve traction in muddy conditions. One of the most ordered are the ICEGRIPPER ACTIVspikes. The 12mm metal spike models are optimised for ice and frozen turf, but also work well in mud.

What's the best traction device for a fell or mountain race?

For fell and mountain racing, lightweight microspikes with a low-profile harness are ideal — they add grip without compromising your natural running gait. Look for models with 6–8mm stainless steel spikes and a quick-release system so you can remove them on rocky or dry sections. The new Microspikes GHOST is designed from the ground up to tackle these situations. An alternative is ICESPIKE, which is probably the lightest option and relies on low profile studs. However it is an 'always on' option, so may not be the best for mixed conditions?

How do I care for my trail running grips after use?

Rinse with cold water after muddy or salty runs, allow to air dry away from direct heat, and store flat or loosely rolled. Avoid leaving them compressed in a bag long-term as this can deform the rubber harness. Inspect spikes periodically for wear and replace when tips become blunt.
