The INSTINCT ALPI brings the high-sitting fit and accessible front storage of a trail vest into a genuine 40L alpine pack.

Compressed and stabilised, it can be carried close to the body for trail running, fast hiking and lighter day trips. Fully loaded, its main compartment, independent roll-top and removable top pouch provide the capacity needed for multi-day adventures.

This adaptability makes ALPI suitable for runners, hikers, ski tourers and mountaineers who want one pack capable of moving between different activities, seasons and equipment requirements.

ALPI increases maximum carrying capacity by a further 16L, to 40L over the XX 20-24L

This additional space is supported by a more substantial alpine carrying system, including attachments for skis, snowshoes, a snowboard, crampons, ice axes, a shovel, rope, helmet, sleeping mat and tent.

ALPI weighs 998g in its complete configuration. Removing the top pouch reduces its weight to 880g when less storage and organisation are required.

Adapt the pack to your load

ALPI’s capacity can be compressed for a lower-profile trail configuration or expanded for overnight and multi-day equipment.

Its protected double-V side system combines elastic lacing with stabilising nylon webbing. The elastic setting provides a more flexible fit for running and fast hiking, allowing the torso to move and breathe more naturally.

When carrying a heavier alpine load, tightening the nylon webbing brings the pack firmly against the body and helps control unwanted movement.

Immediate access through a large rear door

The main compartment opens through a large rear door, providing a clear view of clothing and equipment.

This makes it easier to find a particular item without unpacking everything through a narrow opening. An overlapping zipped mesh pocket adds quick storage for smaller equipment that needs to remain visible and accessible.

Segmented 40L storage

The rear main compartment provides approximately 28L of storage and is supplemented by an independent roll-top section of approximately 12.5L.

The roll-top can be compressed when carrying less or expanded when additional capacity is needed. Keeping it separate from the main compartment also allows equipment to be organised by use, condition or required access.

Wet waterproofs, spare clothing, sleeping equipment and technical alpine kit can therefore be separated rather than mixed together in one undivided space.

Removable top pouch

The removable top pouch contains two zipped compartments for smaller items such as a first-aid kit, headtorch, tools, batteries or navigation equipment.

An auto-closing stretch-mesh pocket over the pouch provides immediate storage for a rain jacket, poncho, gloves or compatible solar charging panel.

Remove the pouch when travelling lighter or retain it when extra organisation and rapid access are more important.

Durable four-layer ripstop construction

ALPI is constructed from premium four-layer diamond-pattern nylon ripstop, providing the strength required for heavy equipment and repeated use in mountain environments.

Reinforced bartack stitching is used at load-bearing webbing points, helping the attachment system withstand the demands of skis, snowshoes, climbing equipment and external loads.

The anatomically shaped shoulder straps and back panel are constructed as one continuous unit, helping distribute the load while reducing unnecessary seams and potential rubbing points.

Perforated 3mm EVA padding supports both the shoulder straps and back panel. Breathable 3D mesh encourages airflow and moisture dispersal during sustained movement.

Load-adjuster straps, side compression and three vertically adjustable sternum straps allow the pack to be balanced and secured for different body shapes and load configurations.

Adjustable front sternum straps and elastic side-lacing help keep the load close while allowing the fit to be adapted as clothing layers and pack volume change.

Front-mounted hydration included

The two upper front pockets accommodate either 600ml soft flasks or hard bottles up to 750ml.

ICEGRIPPER supplies ALPI with 2 x 600ml soft flasks, providing 1.2L of immediately accessible front-mounted hydration.

Two additional pre-shaped front mesh pockets can also accommodate bottles or soft flasks, allowing up to four hydration containers to be carried at the front when conditions require additional water.

Independent 3L hydration compartment

An independent rear pocket accommodates a hydration bladder of up to 3L and extends across the back of the pack.

Separating the bladder from the main storage area allows it to be removed or refilled without disturbing clothing and equipment. It also provides an alternative to front-mounted hydration for long or remote routes.

Two extra-large vertical zipped front pockets secure a phone, GPS, keys, wallet, nutrition and other important equipment.

The pre-shaped mesh pockets provide quick-access storage for food, gloves, a hat, neck tube or additional hydration.

Front and shoulder attachment points also keep poles and an ice axe or ice tool accessible without needing to open the main compartment.

Specialist ski and alpine carrying systems

ALPI provides dedicated carrying solutions for skis, snowshoes, a snowboard, crampons, ice axes and a snow shovel.

Side straps and an upper shoulder-strap loop support ski carrying. Rear daisy chains and interchangeable straps provide configurable attachment points for snowshoes, a snowboard or crampons.

Ice-axe or ice-tool fixtures are positioned at both the front and rear, while a dedicated rear fixture accommodates a compact shovel.

Carry overnight and bulky equipment

Rear and lower attachment points allow a sleeping mat, compact tent or similarly shaped equipment to be secured outside the pack.

Rope and helmet carrying can also be configured using the available fixtures and interchangeable straps.

External carrying preserves space inside the main compartment for clothing, food, safety equipment and sleeping kit.

Built for winter and alpine conditions

ALPI is particularly well suited to cold-weather routes where additional clothing, safety equipment and specialist traction must be carried.

Its 40L capacity accommodates insulated layers, waterproofs, spare gloves, additional food, headtorch batteries and emergency equipment. External attachments provide dedicated carrying positions for crampons, snowshoes, skis, an ice axe and a shovel.

Always cover and secure the points of crampons, micro-crampons or other traction equipment. Keep exposed metal points away from the pack fabric, soft flasks and other equipment.

SAFE EXTERNAL CARRYING

Ensure skis, poles, ice axes, crampons and other externally mounted equipment are firmly secured before moving. Cover all sharp points and edges, and check that attached equipment cannot contact the soft flasks, pack fabric or the wearer.

WATER-RESISTANT STORAGE
The four-layer ripstop material provides durability and abrasion resistance, but the pack should not be treated as completely waterproof. ICEGRIPPER recommends using waterproof inner bags or protective cases for electronics, sleeping equipment and other water-sensitive items.
